Fireplace at the beginning

My Dad and me destroying the Fireplace

Designed the layout in Photoshop.

Used the straight edge to support the tile over the opening. Once the bottom layer was secure, I was able to finish the rest.

A view of the Fireplace from above.
The layout of the tile pattern completed.
You can also see the Living Room floor being worked on. It has 18" Noche Travertine, gone is the Pink carpet.

I made a mold for the concrete.
Laid glass on the bottom of the mold.
Rebar was also added

My dad is leveling out the concrete. This concrete has things added to make in not crack and look like ordinary concrete.
Fiber, Water reducer and pigments for the color your looking for.
You let the concrete set up for 4 days before flipping and removing the mold. Yes flip the concrete, the concrete is made upside down.
As you see below the columns are poured into plastic pipes with rebar down the center.
A cap was put on one end with a shallow hole drilled for the rebar to center itself.
After 4 days I cut open the plastic pipe
(This wasn't easy ).

Then cut the columns all to the some height using a Masonry and Metal grinding disc.

Here I am grinding down the columns

I put sand down first then crushed glass on top. The glass looks like it's on fire.
The bottom piece concrete is in place.
The shine you can see is by grinding the concrete with a wet diamond grinder. Starting at 100 grit and finishing at 3,000 grit for that mirror finished.
